Filipinas Magazine was more than a magazine. Since publishing its maiden issue in May 1992, it was the only nationally circulated Filipino American monthly magazine. Each issue of Filipinas raised its unique voice to provide a reference point to Filipino Americans navigating the often rough terrain of life in America. Filipinas offered its readers stories of heroes, achievers, mavericks and leaders in the community, and had fearlessly translated national issues into community issues, been a community advocate, become a trusted resource for Philippine culture, history, business, travel, food and entertainment. Most of all, Filipinas provided a venue where Filipino Americans could shed their collective invisibility in mainstream America and finally be recognized.
